I'm now a lobbyist

For my association, I have spent the last two days witnessing a culmination in higher education over the last couple years, the advance of the Higher Education Act (HEA) through congress. We got to see a mark up session of the full education committee. Very interesting to seeing some people there and how they act.

I give Ric Keller (R-FL) some credit that he has some good ideas. Did you know: out of all the members of the Education and Workforce Committee, Ric Keller is the only one that had a pell grant? Well as his stint on the committee he has worked to attempt increasing pell grants and most recently offered an amendment today to increase the income protection allowance for students and how it computes into fin aid. As I am sure that was goobledygook, let me explain... Currently students can earn 2700 dollarsand then anything additional affects them at 50%. So for every two dollars a student earns above that, one is to be put towards their education. Mr. Keller's amendment would take that to 6500.... This will help poor students who have to work to pay for college or to support their families, or those students who have a good work ethic. Bravo Ric... i almost feel bad for working for Linda Chapin... oh ok not really.

Yet again Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO) is a complete whore. The first day of markup, she slept through the entire part of the hearing i was there for... Her ugly face bent down ... you could only imagine that she snores up there. But then she goes and introduces an act that says Parent's can't apply for a PLUS Loan if a student doesn't take their Stafford loan first.... What happened to the government allowing students to decide their own ways of financing... isn't that the true nature of conservatives... maybe she can attach her hateful Federal MArriage Amendment to this and say financial aid can only go to gaybashers?

Side note: While i was in the House today waiting for an elevator, who do i see?????/ that's wrong.. not the stupid supreme court guy.... second guess is right though... John Bolton....
